Liam is a Principal at KCRise Fund and comes to the venture capital world after practicing law for a national law firm in Kansas City.

Liam is responsible for:

  • finding promising high-growth technologies startups as early as the idea and conception stage

  • guiding evaluation of investment opportunities from intro to investment memo

  • managing the various aspects of deal execution and closing

  • supporting existing portfolio companies through research, network exploration, board positions, and more

  • leading opportunities for investor engagement through fund-related content management and organizing reoccurring events

Previously as a technology and intellectual property attorney, Liam counseled clients—from startups to public companies, and everything in between—at the intersection of law and emerging technologies.  Among other things, Liam’s legal practice included supporting and conducting due diligence as part of growth-equity deals and counseling clients in connection with strategic sales and acquisitions of software and other technologies.

Liam received his law degree from Notre Dame Law School, where he graduated magna cum laude.  In law school, Liam served early-stage companies through the Intellectual Property and Entrepreneurship Clinic.  Liam also worked as a graduate student intern for the University of Notre Dame’s technology transfer office, where he researched opportunities to commercialize university-backed innovations.

Since returning to Kansas City, Liam has been active in the local and regional startup ecosystems.  In addition to volunteering his time with organizations such as the University of Missouri – Kansas City’s Entrepreneurship Scholars (E-Scholars) program, Liam also regularly presents to startups and startup-related organizations throughout the area.  Liam’s interest in entrepreneurship and passion to work with early-stage companies stems from an experience as a small business owner while at Kansas State University.

Liam is always curious to learn how innovation and technology can shape our lives.  When Liam is not busy studying startups, he and his wife are likely out to eat at one of their favorite restaurants or a new spot that has piqued their interests.  They also enjoy traveling, and Liam hopes to round out visits to all seven continents soon.
